A Weiner of A Work Call
I am pretty sure that all of has been here. You’ve been hanging out on a work conference call from the genuine comfort of your home office, bedroom or maybe even your bed and that vital moment arrives where you have to unmute yourself and speak like the professional that you are. And, right at that exact split second, some form of dependent being whether it is a child, animal or significant other chooses that moment to interrupt you in the most raucous way possible!
There I was, sitting on my work call trying hard to resist the temptation to poke at my eyeballs with the tip of my fancy Frixion erasable pen (I have gobs of gratitude for these little bits of wonder). The project manager was going around the ‘circle’ asking each person what they had to contribute. My name was called and my finger hovered over the unmute button when I heard it…the unmistakable pitter-patter of little dachshund feet. Let me assure you, the dachshund may be little but his roar is otherworldly. He shared that roar as I tried desperately to spit out all my thoughts and opinions in under seven nanoseconds. I am pretty sure all that was heard on the other end was a barrage of barks. I am sure that I am responsible for loads of bleeding ear drums.
I hear that sound daily and wonder constantly where the ‘off’ switch is. Well, its been over twelve years and we haven’t found it yet. The barks definitely each mean something different and I can usually figure it out but my brain tends to seize up when I’m caught off guard by it.
And yet, in that moment when I should be focused on my job and the betterment of society, I still need ot force myself to be in that moment (barks or no barks) and find what I am grateful for.
A tiny dog who adores the living daylights out of me.
My animal has an opinion and he expresses it freely. I guess he is exercising his Constitutional rights :)
I am able to share the delicious bark of the dachshund with my co-workers. They just don’t know how lucky they truly are!
The pitter patter of dachshund feet is one of the sweetest sounds in the house now that the kids have grown up a little. There is no rhythm quite like it.
Dachshund snores.
Dachshund snuggles.
A tiny creature who reminds me that he is the center of my world.
A devoted companion.
A defender if I ever need one.
I am grateful for all of the dachshunds who have been a part of my life. I wouldn’t have survived this long without them!
